Grade Calculator
Find the score you need on a final to reach your target grade.
Enter your values and calculate to see the result.
Formula used
final needed = (target − current × (1 − w)) / w
where w = final weight as a fraction (e.g. 40% → 0.4)

Worked example
Current 78%, final weight 40%, target 80%:
w = 0.4 → final = (80 − 78×0.6) / 0.4 = (80 − 46.8) / 0.4 = 33.2 / 0.4 = 83%
Frequently asked questions
What does this calculator find?
It works backwards from a goal. Given your current grade, the weight of the remaining assessment, and the grade you want overall, it returns the score you must get on that assessment.
How is the needed score calculated?
Overall = current × (1 − weight) + final × weight. Solving for the final gives (target − current × (1 − weight)) / weight, with weight expressed as a fraction.
What if the result is over 100?
That means your target is no longer reachable from your current grade with the weight available, so the calculator tells you it is not possible.
What if the result is below 0?
Your target is already secured. You could score zero on the final and still meet it, so the calculator shows that it is already achieved.
Can the final weight be zero?
No. If the final carries no weight, it cannot change your grade, and the calculator asks for a weight greater than zero.
