Formula used
GPA = Σ(grade point × credit hours) / Σ(credit hours)
Grade points (4.0): A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7, D = 1.0, F = 0.0

Worked example
Three courses: A (4.0) × 3 credits, B+ (3.3) × 4 credits, B (3.0) × 3 credits.
Σ(grade × credit) = 4.0×3 + 3.3×4 + 3.0×3 = 12 + 13.2 + 9 = 34.2
Σ(credits) = 3 + 4 + 3 = 10 → GPA = 34.2 / 10 = 3.42
Frequently asked questions
What is GPA?
GPA stands for Grade Point Average. It is your average grade across courses, weighted by credit hours, usually reported on a 4.0 scale in the US and many other systems.
How is GPA calculated?
Each course grade is converted to a grade point (A is 4.0, B is 3.0, and so on), multiplied by its credit hours, and those products are summed and divided by the total credit hours. Add one row per course below.
Which grade scale does this use?
The common 4.0 scale where A is 4.0, B is 3.0, C is 2.0, D is 1.0, and F is 0.0, with plus and minus steps of 0.3 or 0.7 between them.
Why are credit hours important?
A 4-credit course should count more than a 1-credit course. Weighting by credits means a strong grade in a heavy course moves your GPA more than the same grade in a light course.
Does this convert to a CGPA on 10?
Not directly, but the CGPA calculator on this site applies the same weighting on the 10-point scale, so you can compare both views of the same results.
